I'm Lydia :) I was born in Montreal but have been living in Toronto most of my life. As a kid I read a lot of books. As I got older, not so much. I always enjoyed writing lyrics. I've been writing since I was 9.
2017 was a crazy uncomfortable year for me and yes, also a dark time. I found myself starting to read self-help articles and just spending more time reading up on ways to help me out of the slump I was in. Since January 2018 I started reading personal development/ business/ spiritual books and then stumbled onto a self-publishing course at the end of February.
As I became more and more obsessed with writing and book marketing I realized this was the universe giving me the opportunity to help others. So I took the methods I used to help me start tackling my anxiety & depression and put it into a step by step guide so others could start to live a happier life.
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you! Don't be afraid to connect! I'm always looking for new books and new people to meet :)
Quite an informative book, and definitely worth the £1 price tag, (probably a lot more). The only problem I have is it is a bit too short. Till the last chapter the ideas talked about in the book were not built on. I the last chapter was excellent if the rest of the book was like that this would have been an easy 5 stars.
Going back to the length of the book, think they might have been intentional as it is supposed to be a quick and simple read so I that might not be a bad thing. A good book that, I got much more then I paid for it built on things I had read in other books, I would look at this as companion then a main book. However the important message is in there.
We live in a fast world full of obligations and not enough time for ourselves. Either having some trauma from the past or new situations that we face, at one moment we may end up suffering from depression that may lead to anxiety. If we don’t become aware that we need to do something about it, the situation will only get worse. What I liked most about this self-help guide is its simplicity. First, we are presented with the possible symptoms and then with simple steps that could help cure ourselves or make us more qualified to offer our help to someone dear to us. There are many messages in the book that I liked and I agree with, therefore I congratulate the author for being able to create a concise guide that hopefully will help many people.
Reader type: If you suffer from depression and/or anxiety or have a family member or a friend that suffers and you wish to help, I recommend you give this self-help guide a try. It’s short but concise, and if applied it can make the changes you are looking for.
My favorite quotes from this book:
“... if you do not take timely action to overcome anxiety and depression, your symptoms could exacerbate to a point where they take complete control of your life.”
“It is a great way to rewire your mind to think positively, align your focus on a goal, and create positive thoughts that attract positive experiences your way. ”
“You are now aware that the answer to all your problems are within you. ”

↳ I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Overcoming Anxiety & Depression is a comprehensive guide for those battling anxiety and/or depression, believe they are experiencing anxiety and/or depression, or for those interested in learning more about how to overcome anxiety and/or depression from an educational standpoint, or those who know someone battling anxiety and/or depression that would like to learn a bit on how they can help them and ways they can help themselves, too.
Francis has an easy to understand writing style that makes reading this guide easy for anybody who decides to pick it up and give it a read. I am already very educated on these topics, as I suffer from both anxiety as well as depression myself, but I was still able to learn something from this guide. It didn't felt like I was reading it just to read it, I was reading it to get something out of it, which I ultimately did.
I will carry with me the information Francis has taught me through this guide and I will also carry with me some of the tips, tricks, ideas, etc. Francis provides for overcoming anxiety and depression.
My only complaint is that some areas felt a bit glossed over and a think spending a bit more time lengthening this guide up to give it some more "meat" in the areas it lacked it would have been very beneficial, to say the least, which is why I didn't give this book five stars and bumped it down by half a star instead. It wasn't a huge issue, but enough to deter me away from saying it was amazing.
A very fast paced read but full of information and exercises. I really enjoyed all the affirmation suggestions she gives. I agree with her analogy of “filling your cup,” it is a perfect example of how we should take care of ourselves. This guide is very straightforward and in plain language that anyone can understand. The only think I did not like (but was easy to get over because it wasn’t the important content) is how the author transitioned to a new section. It felt juvenile to say “and now we will discuss.” While it does not take away from the content, it was not necessary. I will definitely be utilizing the Ho'oponopono healing prayer, I really liked that section. I’d recommend this book to those I feel would benefit.
Loves this book! As a retired counselor with over thirty years in the field I like that this handbook will also be beneficial to professionals, as well as others that may experience anxiety and depression. Kudos to the author for understanding the issues with depression and anxiety disorders. I love her simplistic, step by step writing style in an easy to follow format. I like her symbolic references to "fill your cup" and how vital that can be. I highly recommend this book and will let others know about it too.
I’ve never suffered from long term depression or anxiety, but I know several people that do. Lydia Francis’ guide Overcoming Anxiety and Depression offers great tips to combat the two diseases. It’s well organized starting with definitions for everything and moving on to a step by step guide to help those with chronic anxiety or depression. Francis’ tools are also great in creating mindfulness for those not suffering from the diseases. Very useful for anyone to promote a more compassionate happy life!
This was a nice quick read with a lot of great tips for battling anxiety and depression. People are naturally very critical of themselves and it’s important to first love thyself. And then realize that while not all circumstances can be changed, the way we react to those circumstances is completely within our control. that will go a long way to minimizing anxiety and depression.
