Not what I was expecting-I thought it would be mini-biographies of lesser known heroes. Instead it was a mini history of battle that included heroic groups such as Buffalo Soldiers, Navajo Code Talkers, and Tuskegee airmen. Interesting and a great review of some history. Vocabulary words are defined and there are lots of pictures.

This is a collection of earlier books by Baker. It includes the Buffalo Soldiers, Navajo Code Talkers, and The tuskegee Airman. This book gives an overview voice to the muted stories of these brave citizens. This is great if you need a starting point for more research into these stories.

This book is a good bite-sized introduction to the fighters who weren't appreciated in their times but can be fully appreciated now. It is definitely age-appropriate for younger children who know how to read for themselves and have the inquisitive mind to go looking for information.
