Each of us has a story to tell, however we are often reluctant to share it with others. The stories encompass a wide gamut of human emotions, exploring relationships between friends, lovers, mother and son and more. The author is hopeful that his friends would find in their stories, the closure in their lives that they were looking for, a reunion with their own selves, for eventually in each story, the protagonist experiences a new lease of life in the end.

Book Title: A New Lease of Life Author: Sarmita Dey Format: Paperback
Book Title: The title of the book ' A New Lease of Life ' is refreshing, inspiring and different.
Book Cover : The book cover is a simple image of few real-life people. There is nothing much to talk about and the image could have been a better one.
Plot: "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages." said, William Shakespeare and it is true and can be attributed to everyone's lives. Everyone has a story to narrate to the world. Everyone's story is a journey of emotions. In this book, the author has written twenty stories that are long, short, tiny, fictional and inspired from own experiences. In every story, the protagonists either male or female take the reader with them during the narration. This kind of technique builds an emotional connection between the readers and the characters.
Rarely there will be some stories that give a reader the goosebumps because of close relatable sequences in the story. In the book, there are many such places where I have had such experience. In this review, I have divided the stories according to the emotions that they are written upon and the impact they had on me.
Stories like The New Chapter, Be Mine, No Longer in Mourning, Twist of Destiny and Found Love show the different stages of love of a couple, the contrast between matured and immature ways of leading lives, having a concrete hope of being loved back and identifying an ideal and destined love. The affirmation of meeting the lost love again is very beautifully explained in these stories.
Small stories like Reunited with Dolls, Reunion in the After-World, A Reunion That Was Not To Be, A Online Reunion, The Lost Son, A Monsoon Wedding, Lost and Found, The Smell of Love, Santa's Gifts and Fairytale Reunion, as the titles say is all about 'reunion'. The reunion is between people, it's between two hearts, it's between two souls, love on few materialistic things and between one's heart and soul within. A smooth smile is a guaranteed take away after reading these stories.
There are few stories like Rivalry, The Rendezvous and The Apparition that tell about the negative feeling one develops on their own people for many reasons, or the guilt factor playing inside the mind for an unfulfilled promise or longing developed after the death of a loved one explain the conflict that one's own consciousness against the practicality of life. A relaxed feeling is a take away from these stories.
The first story, ' United in the Mid Air ', is truly a passionate and sweet reunion story of a couple who parted as friends after the college for some unforeseen reasons without confessing their feelings about each other. The dramatic travel to a common friend's wedding, with some touching moments to cherish and the nostalgic feeling of meeting the first love, are very close to heart. I became very nostalgic and it was the trigger point for me to complete the book in one go.
What I liked: 1. Varied life stories where unconditional love is the main ingredient. 2. Few shallow and easily readable stories but carrying an underlying strong emotion. 3. The ' hope ' factor in every story after feeling deprived of love.
What I didn't like: 1. Similarities between characters and plot in few stories. 2. Repeated usage of some words in few stories. 3. Health ailment as a wild card to regain the lost relationships.
Narration: The narration is very interesting and engaging.
Characters: All the characters are plotted brilliantly.
Language & Vocabulary: Good language and grammar are used. Emphasizing words are used to emote certain actions which are impressive. Very minor editing errors are found in two stories.
My Final Verdict—. Love always transcends, life always progresses and an array of memories are assembled.
Book title: 3/5 Book Cover: 2/5 Plot: 5/5 Narration: 4/5 Characters: 4/5 Language & Grammar:4/5
Stories of reunion written in lucid language, easy to relate by the reader. These could be part of any person's life and Sarmita has made a good effort in penning down these everyday stories in her interesting style of writing. A commendable effort for a first book!! I look forward to the next.
Everyone has a story to tell but few are lucky to tell the stories of others too; its when they narrate you feel as if every word uttered is actually what you wanted to say. One such is the Author who narrated the tales of reunion of yours, mine and all such others. What I found captivating was the way prologue was handled, where all the characters were introduced and questioned to give an inlet to their psyche and adding to the curiosity of the reader. Be it Pranav and Gina re uniting mid-air, or the anxious, confused or apprehensive bond between Ritesh and Pauli- which saw a tumultuous phase- all seemed so relatable. Though I find it hard to assimilate the sudden realisation of Vipin towards the end and overpowering his demons demanding to have Mili at all cost-even at the sacrifice of their marital relationships. His decision to forget his desire and remain as faithful friends was hard to digest at the end. To cut the long story short if I go by analysing each story, my document itself will become a novella to read! All I can say is that hardly ever had I been so astounded by the maiden book of a writer. Id shows tat she is a seasoned writer who knows how to balance with agonies, cravings, and sensibilities of a human heart! Congratulations and looking forward to more from your desk.
"A reunion reveals friendship potential that had not really emerged in the past."
Reuniting is destiny's way of saying that everything is not over yet; not just yet! People drift away for various reasons, sometimes when they have no control over their circumstances and sometimes consciously. But when they come back together you can expect a myriad of emotions from overwhelming excitement to even silent reconciliation.
The authoress weaves twenty stories around a central theme of reunion each portraying real emotions, never once tripping over or meandering into pretension; none even overlapping! Most of the stories end on a positive note and that is one reason why the book was extremely rejuvenating for me.
There are many stories in the novel that will make you remember of your own memories. I feel like that this book is something to be read for reminisce all those precious moments that we keep forgetting in the busy schedules of the life. Commenting on the author, I loved her writing style as well as her vocabulary. She described the stories in really an interesting and engrossing way that you just don't want to stop reading this book at all. Kuddos to the author. This book deserves 5 stars for many reasons. For the amazing stories, rich vocab, reminiscing memories and a lot more. I recommend this one to all those who love to read something entertaining and at the same time something to learn in a fun way.
As the title suggests it indeed gives us a feeling of a new lease towards life. All the stories are just brilliantly written and unique in its kind. The theme the author has chosen is a rare one and all the twenty stories leave an impact on us. I had a great confusion while choosing the best one out of it. But yes! I would say my pick would be “FOUND LOVE”. The story has just left me wanting a person like JACK in my life , who would live just to love me till the end. I must say it is a wonderful collection of stories complied into a beautiful book. The simple language makes it easy for all age groups to read it. Also I definitely would like to say that the short story concept is indeed very nice than reading a full novel. It is a reunion of the memories we have from our past experiences I must say.Looking forward for more such books from the Author. Overall I rate the book "THE NEW LEASE OF LIFE" by SARMITA DEY a 4/5. .
Sarmita Dey's collection of shorties is a delightful tale, peeking into the life of various characters, triumphs and pain embedded into the simplicity of life. The author has a powerful pen in making the true to life tales that will stay embedded with us and many will find themselves in the stories. I love how she introduces the stories in the introduction and the sheer optimism in the stories you cannot miss for anything on earth.
Sarmita Dey is a fantastic story teller and this book made me go back to my youth and reminded me of all the other stories that I was part of. An enthralling book.
