A contemporary and personal guide to the art of gardening, which explores in a lively and readable way the whole process of transforming a bare plot into a series of stunning seasonal pictures. It is aimed at the enthusiastic gardener, experienced as well as inexperenced, and leads in logical progression through all the practical and design decisions that need to be taken.
Reads like an expanded compilation of articles on different aspects of garden design. Mentions a lot of different gardens as well as the author's own, showing his wide range of experience and practical knowledge. I wouldn't say there is a particular angle here - the information covers all sizes, styles and aspects of a garden. More words than pictures.
Some very useful plant lists (although in a pretty unreadable pale blue text) . The illustrations are not magnificent and the sections are not particularly well organised. Nevertheless some useful information and ideas about plants and planting. Although it is well-written the style is lightly trying.
