Users of government publications find it difficult to keep themselves informed of new publications. Lack of uniformity in the classification of government documents complicates locating all material available on a particular subject. The purpose of this volume is to describe the basic guides to government publications, to indicate the uses and limitation of available indexes, catalogs, and bibliographies, to explain the systems of numbering and methods of titling, to call attention to certain outstanding compilations or series of publications, and to indicate how the publications may be obtained.
