G. Tyler Miller's worldwide bestsellers have evolved right along with the changing needs of the diverse student population. Focused specifically on energizing and engaging materials for students, Miller and new coauthor Scott Spoolman have been at work scrutinizing every line--enhancing, clarifying, and streamlining to reduce word density as well as updating with the very latest environmental news and research. The resulting texts are shorter, clearer, and so engaging that students will actually want to read the assignments. About half the price of other environmental science texts, this 14-chapter, one-color core text offers an integrated approach that emphasizes how environmental and resource problems and solutions are related.
G. Tyler Miller Jr. has written or co-authored 60 editions of various textbooks for introductory courses in environmental science, basic ecology, energy, and environmental chemistry. Since 1975, Miller's books have been the most widely used textbooks for environmental science in the United States and throughout the world. Miller has a PhD from the University of Virginia and has received two honorary doctorate degrees for his contributions to environmental education. He taught college for 20 years and developed an innovative interdisciplinary undergraduate science program before deciding to write environmental science textbooks full time in 1975.
Definitely outdated at this point but still ful of good concepts. Enough doom and gloom to make you worry but enough optimism to keep you going. Sustainability is the future! There is no planet B.
My friend gave this to me after she had to use it for a class because I am interested in sustainable living. This books gives a nice overview about a lot of aspects of how we are currently living, both sustainably and unsustainably around the world. Also gives plenty of advice on how to live more sustainably and the main areas we should focus our attention on when it comes to becoming globally more sustainable. Nothing went into much detail, so a nice survey of the subject.
This book was used for my "Biology" class at college. I used it for quizzes, tests and labs. I learned a lot in this class, but of course, I will never agree with Evolution that was taught. God created the Universe and He is the only One who spoke it into existence.
