skimmed this book, because I only need some of its content for my thesis.

A very easy read because it provided well known techniques in film making thoroughly, of course there are example pictures to help us understand the concept too.
what’s a little lacking maybe because this book mostly use classic movie as a reference which maybe not many watched it (unless you’re a movie person or taking film major) but in one way it’s good because we can discover classic movies title that often trascended time and trends with indefinable quality.

it’s not fully explain the whole techniques but rather explain the reason behind every method from psycological and historical perspective

I really enjoyed this book’s connection to and exploration of film as an art form, commonly paralleled to paintings and photography. Filmmaking is understanding image and how to manipulate them and I thought this book had a great grasp and way of conveying these ideas in a comprehensible way. It talked a lot about paintings and drawing principles and how those can be translated into filmmaking techniques, which I haven’t seen too often. So I really liked those parts.
