Darrell Schweitzer is an American writer, editor, and essayist in the field of speculative fiction. Much of his focus has been on dark fantasy and horror, although he does also work in science fiction and fantasy.

Schweitzer is also a prolific writer of literary criticism and editor of collections of essays on various writers within his preferred genres.

Fans of Darrell Schweitzer will enjoy his compilation of essays. Full of his self-depreciating wit and love of weird things (i.e., the Lovecraftian Mythos), it yields insights into his creative process and history in the writing profession.

For instance, he discusses the history of "Conan the Deliverer" (not the wid-mife or doula) which has yet to see print, but did inspire his Mask of the Sorcerer books.
