This book was recommended to me as a beginner beekeeper. It is very detailed and scientific, explaining stuff like the chemical make up of beeswax and goes into detail about flower structures. So, this book has it its place but it isn't necessarily the first book I would recommend to a beginner (go for the BBKA one). At times this book can be quite hard to follow and some of the chapters are a slog (like the one on the make up of flowers). However, the chapters on viruses are very interesting and useful with high quality photographs to help identify the different problems (EFB, AFB, Chalkbrood etc.).
