This book is a great way to start a conversation about not being a shamed about anything, and it is a good read. There are lots of important life lessons throughout the book. I have always liked books that helps explains what some students and adults may go through in life. This is why I rated this book the way I did. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to read it.
A young girl is embarrassed by her brother, who has cerebral palsy. I thought this might be a good read for my son who has two older sibs with CP. The story was fine, but I hated that Sara was so embarrassed that she wanted to completely disassociate herself from her brother she loved so much at home. It also used words such as "retard" that I thought were unnecessary. After reading, I opted not to share this with any of my children.
For children ages 6-9 years old. Sara's Secret is a touching story about a young girl named Sara who has a brother with a severe disability. When she goes to school she over hears some students talking about the children in the Special Ed classroom. This bothers Sara and she hopes that no one finds out about her brother. This story is great for anyone to read. There could be a child or adult out there who does not want anyone to know about them having soemone in their family who has disabilites. It is natural to feel that way, some may find it embarassing becuase of what other's may say. I enjoyed this story very much.
