I am rating this between 3 and 4 stars. Short lessons that make you speak German from page one. It starts off making simple sentences/questions and making them more complex. Present tense, present perfect tense, imperative tense, simple future (werden +infinitive) with imperfect tense and simple past tense used in a story. There are some grammar explanations, verb tables, etc. in the back. I wish there were more of an explanation of pronunciation but today, we have the Internet to look it up. The story at the end is made up of several difficult words. It would be better if the story used the vocabulary one learned in the lessons. Make sure one reviews the lessons as instructed after every five lessons--this is called ''spaced repetition''. However, this is a good introduction, as the title states, of the German language and to get a taste of it. If you already know some German, this is a good review of some basics to get back into the language. My opinions are my own.

My first learn at home German book. And mine says 1971, so a little older than this version.
