Since beginning a comprehensive writing course with The Writers Bureau in 2001, my articles and short stories have been published in a variety of magazines. These include Heritage, Scottish Field, The Lady and People’s Friend. In 2005 a couple of my short stories were included in two quite different anthologies. The first story was in an International Anthology, published in June, while the second appeared in Café Ole – Too Hot To Handle, which was launched in Glasgow during August.

My debut novel, The Trojan Project, an action thriller, was published at the end of May 2008 by Austin & Macauley Publishers Ltd. Now my novel is to be re-published in the USA later this year with a brand new cover. Details of my novel can be found on my website. www.eileenthornton.co.uk I also review books for newbooks a bi-monthly magazine informing the public of new books on the shelves.

Light-hearted Short Stories

A Surprise for Christine – a surprise party with obstacles
Reason to Celebrate – trouble in the village
Same Time on Friday? – revenge is sweet
The Last Pea on the plate – do peas have feelings?
The Little Fairy – pleasant surprises
The Number 57 Bus – the romance of a bus
Only the Best – theatre trouble
The Suitcase – secrets to keep
The Wrong Horse – an apparent suicide
Reaching the Top – taking up a challenge
Drastic Measures – the bliss of having neighbours
To Trap a Thief – an amazing jewel

This collection of light-hearted short stories is a quick read that gives the reader a mixture of romance, crime, quirky ideas, and musings about life, the universe, and anything. Ms Thornton writes in a playful manner, it may not be deep or philosophical, but it is effective. This is the kind of book you’d grab to while away a rainy day – when you want an hour or so of cheerful recreation.

I thoroughly enjoyed the short stories in this collection. The author did a great job with the fell of the stories and the endings had just the right twist. The stories are a quick read and each one is a fun idea and a great journey into some interesting tales. I found the author's writing style extremely inviting and smiled at the quirky ending of each tale. If readers are looking for a fun collection, this is the one to grab. Well done.

"A Great Assortment Of Enjoyable Short Stories"

This is a novella of 12 different genre stories. Some are sweet and lighthearted romance tales, and others are also very entertaining. Get comfortable and enjoy the stories with your feet up and coffee beside you. I enjoyed them all, especially the caper to steal a precious stone. Enjoy!

This is a truly heartwarming collection of short stories with just enough suspense & intrigue in each to keep you guessing. My favourite was ‘The Last Pea on the Plate’, a very clever romance that made me smile. I’ve read this book around the pool, dipping in & out of the tales and enjoying every single one. Thornton is a great author with a superb talent for spinning a yarn or two.

This is a delightful treat! Take a break from full length novels (riveting and exciting as they are) and indulge in this lovely book of short stories.

These are a selection of light-hearted tales that play on differing sentiments and emotions and all leave you with a ‘feel good’ factor.

So to any who may read this review, it is great to put the kettle on, put your feet up and dip into this book. Each story is a delight. Certainly worth five stars.
