A recommended and relevant read for any budding naturalist or wildlife enthusiast.
The charming, intuitive and resourceful author, Phil Drabble tells both the story of leaving factory work to pursue his love of badgers and a full scientific research essay into how semi-domesticated badgers behave including their treatment of other animals such as ducks and dogs, and also how they behave around the local wild badger population. He is very open and wants to put forward that you don’t have to be academic to understand the natural world, you just have to be observant.
Good for reading on a long bus or train journey.
There is only one uncomfortable sentence that is ‘of its time’ but it feels forced, as if Drabble is trying to bond with some ‘fellas’ from the pub and these are not his genuine thoughts. But maybe I’m just trying to separate him from that sort of way of thinking....
