This handsome edition of high-quality paper, serves as a fantastic documentary reader of historical insight into modern European history from 1871 - 2000. Welch does a fantastic job at presenting the material in a fresh, engaging way, offering chronological tables, graphs, charts, pictures and images - from buildings after war to old propaganda posters - and also inserting pertinent primary sources that deal with the historical chapter at hand. Was very pleased with this book, as I learned so much. A must for the modern historian, especially those wishing to understand the complex social structure of modern Europe.
