The Montreal Canadiens are one of the most successful teams in the NHL, with 24 Stanley Cup victories and stars like Guy LaFleur, Patrick Roy, and Carey Price, who have all left their mark on hockey history. Author Pat Hickey, as a longtime beat writer for the Montreal Gazette, has witnessed more than his fair share of that history up close and personal. Through singular anecdotes only Hickey can tell as well as conversations with current and past players, this book provides fans with a one-of-a-kind, insider's look into the great moments, the lowlights, and everything in between. Habs fans will not want to miss this book.
A few clerical errors - a couple off dates and names but Hickey really is a delight. I’ve had this book on my shelf for years and never got around to reading it. Knocked it out about 34 hours and I wish there was more. Hickey covers a brief history of the Canadiens before diving into a random assortment of stories throughout his year with the Montreal Star and Gazette. A fantastic page turner filled with good, but respectful (non slanderous) behind the scenes tales.
Pat Hickey has been a beat writer and columnist following the Montreal Canadiens for the past 25 years. This is a collection of stories that are primarily from the era of 1993 to today, perhaps even more from 2000 to today. Overall very interesting insight into different events in recent Habs history. There are a couple of vignettes that feel a bit too much like they were written verbatim from Hickey's original column or story of the incident, and his few stories from pre-1993 don't really offer much in terms of new insight. But this is definitely a worthwhile read for any Habs fans. It definitely kept my interest, as I swept through it in three days.
A must-read for every Habs fan! Pat Hickey brings decades of insider access to life with unforgettable stories about legends like Guy LaFleur, Patrick Roy, and Carey Price. This book doesn’t just recount victories, it captures the heart and history of the Montreal Canadiens from behind the scenes. A truly captivating and worthwhile read for anyone who loves hockey or wants to experience the legacy of the Canadiens like never before.
I got this book as a birthday present from a woman friend/companion. I enjoyed reading it. As a Habs fan I found it a good book to read. I have read other books about the Habs over the years too. I would recommend it to anyone that is a fan of the Habs.
I don’t know how to rate a book that has nothing to do with the writing. I learned some stuff, which is good. I feel like the writing was awful but that’s not the point of the book. The information imparted was interesting for the most part, especially as a new hockey fan.
Snippets from the Montreal Canadiens dressing room by reporter Pat Hickey. Interesting but seemed a fairly haphazard collection of stories. Only alright for me.
