Did you know that butterflies taste with their feet, do a dark red poo when they come out of their chrysalises, and that some drink the tears of crocodiles? How does the world look to them, do they ever sleep, and how are some of them able to fly so high? This book, covering all sorts of international butterflies, will open your eyes to these magical creatures around us.
I wasn't thrilled with this. It seemed to be a collection of unconnected facts, some of which are not particularly riveting and /or secret. I would have liked to see some cohesion or life cycle references or why the facts are useful for us to know or why the world needs butterflies. The poem didnt flow for me either and the illustrations are only occasionally great. But it is colourful and the cover is lovely.
Love butterflies and butterfly books of any descript. This one would suit youngsters in pre school and lower primary school. The handy pictorial glossary at the back is engages slightly more than the wafting text. Informative and easy to appreciate.
I learned facts about butterflies that our current curriculum does not include. This book will be a great addition to my resources when I teach this unit. I love that the text is just right for my 2nd grade readers and includes some rich vocabulary.
