Rate this book
Why does everything always go wrong at the same time? Danielle's and Patricia's idyllic walk in the countryside comes to an abrupt end, when they find a corpse hanging from a chestnut tree. Danielle’s investigation uncovers related suspicious deaths and disappearances. There’s little respite at home, as their best friend Marjorie is distraught. The town’s immersed in gossip at her husband, the mayor’s overt relationship with a young assistant. What can Danielle do to restore the balance? Set in a small town in French Catalonia, ‘Hanging About in the Pyrenees’ is the latest book of Elly Grant’s cosy mystery series, ‘Death in the Pyrenees’. This is a standalone novel and can be enjoyed even if you haven't read other books in the series.

I was so looking forward to reading this book because of where it was located. I had not heard of this author before and even though it was #6 I decided to read it as I'm a Francophile. What a disappointment 😢. First of all, the like.
Since it was supposed to be a mystery, the murders are what kept me reading. Not much about the local but I said to myself that this is #6 and all has been written before. The dislikes:
The plot was mostly about the mayor and his love affair. Who cares!😳
The characters were shallow especially the protagonist and chief of police and her pal.
The ending did not really serve justice which most of mystery readers search for and want.
There was nothing inspirational In this book and if you look at the language used, you might ask yourself who this could be hooked by this. The author uses: bastard 13x; merde9x (was this the French I was seeking?) bitch 8x; whore 5x;
And some very crass quotes:
1. "It's as if Poullet has let off a fart" at the very beginning 10% into book 2. "He hopes he gets ass cancer and dies" 3. " it wouldn't do if I threw up over Poullet"

All is never as it seems

A delightful cosy mystery from Elly Grant set in beautiful provincial France. When two old men die in suspicious circumstances it looks like local police supervisor Danielle has a serial killer on her patch. When two become three there can be no doubt. Danielle's investigation leads her to events that took place years ago in a now-closed children's home. As she begins to close in on the killer life is complicated by the town mayor's affair with a young woman, much to Danielle's disgust, as the mayor's wife is her friend. Be prepared for surprises along the way and a delicious and surprising twist in the tale right at the end.
