Welcome to the Enchanted Pony Academy, where glittery ponies learn how to use their magic!
Skydancer can talk to any animal with wings -- a very useful Glitter Gift, and one she's always enjoyed (having your mane braided by birds is fun!).
But when she stumbles upon a dragon at the edge of the Enchanted Pony Academy grounds, Skydancer is terrified. Can she be brave enough to use her Gift and convince the dragon to go away ... before everything goes up in flames?
First sentence: Skydancer rustled her wings in excitement as she listened to plans for the Homecoming celebration.
Premise/plot: Skydancer stars in the second book in the Enchanted Pony Academy series. If you have a young daughter or granddaughter who loves, loves, loves all things ponies or unicorns, then this might be a good match for you. Skydancer is a pony--a flying pony--whose problem is fear, I believe. She'll be challenged to dig down deep and find her courage in this one. This one has more action than the first book--in my opinion. Dragons are discovered near the academy. Everyone--even the adult teachers--are anxious. Ponies and dragons don't necessarily belong near each other at all. Can the ponies overcome their fears and worries long enough to help the dragons out of their predicament?
My thoughts: I liked the second book better than the first. I think the dragons helped actually. Skydancer's talent--besides flying--is talking to other animals who fly. That makes her a great resource at the academy when dragons appear. Skydancer is the only one who can help the two communicate with each other. The ponies have to stop making assumptions about dragons long enough to listen to Skydancer.
While I wouldn't say that either book is "great literature," I would say that young readers NEED paperback series books. Each generation will have its own series, for I don't think any series really stays in print long enough to become a classic.
Wings That Shine is book two in this delightful series. Skydancer shows us that it is okay to be scared and to make mistakes as long as we realize that we can be brave and face what might come. This book shows great character. I do enjoy Skydancer she is light and carefree. Another great classroom book for young readers.
This story was so cute and magical. I loved the focus of being brave and choosing the right thing even when we might feel scared. My 5 year old thoroughly enjoyed this book!
