Enjoyable chinese stories as usual. My favorite are Zhang Xianling's Shorblac and Tang Dong's Gerak Maju Mobil Patroli Militer.

A highly enjoyable read.
An obscure find at a local bookstore some time ago. Can’t remember where or when. Each story is as good as the last, with something universal about them too. The surprising unfairness of the universe; the intensity of longing; goodness and wickedness; the balance of seriousness and silliness that pads the absurd. Id say I have a favourite, but every story offers something cool.

Readability 6. Rating 6. A very enjoyable collection of modern Chinese short stories, set in China's west. As enjoyable as any Chinese literature I have read, and in translation, carrying the same flavor. The setting, however, necessitated a reorientation from what I have previously read. This region is so little thought of or discussed in the US that I had almost no context in which to place the stories. As much as anything, this made it worthwhile.
