The Other Side : Journeys in Baja California

In an increasingly multi-cultural society, The Other Side is a travel memoir for our times. It explores the world of the border where landscapes are both subjective and objective, and where journeys are measured not only in terms of miles, but also in terms of personal transition.

Interesting reading. A travelers' guide to the Baja Peninsula as it existed 20 years ago. My how things have changed. It's the spiritual journey of the author as well. If you're an American who's spent much time at all in Mexico, you'll understand where she's coming from.

Over a period of several years the author describes her initial contact with Baja, California and how through the course of her travels, she not only witnesses the changes within her from the experience, but the physical changes of the peninsula as well. The sense of growth, one energy feeding of the other, really makes for an interesting story.

I appreciate the fact the the author took the time to give specific details i.e. the names of towns, highways, directions, as she traversed the peninsula. I followed along on my own map of Baja and hope one day to trace her footsteps as I seek my own adventures.

Great read.
