American Apocalypse: Reign of Darkness Emp Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction
Book 3 of the series American Apocalypse. Darkness brought on by criminals, drug addicts, and traitors in the band make life even more difficult. Our hardy band of survivors have at least temporarily solved the basic needs issues and have food, water, shelter, and weapons. Now they must seek out likeminded people to join their mutual assistant group and eliminate the criminals and want to be dictators. Joe’s Grandma’s letters continue to motivate Joe and help him search for the promised treasure. One find startles the group and promises a safer life. Another find is a major disappointment. Joe loses some people close to him but finds some new friends along the way. Can Joe become the leader the group desperately needs? Will the group survive? Will we learn what happened to the Muslim terrorists? Read Reign of Darkness to discover the answers.

A.J. Newman is the author of over 22 novels that have been published on Amazon. He was born and raised in a small town in the western part of Kentucky. His Dad taught him how to handle guns very early in life, and he and his best friend Mike spent summers shooting .22 rifles and fishing. He read every book he could get his hands on and fell in love with science fiction. He graduated from USI with a degree in Chemistry and made a career working in manufacturing and logistics, but always fancied himself as an author. He served six years in the Army National Guard in an armored unit and spent six years performing every function on M48 and M60 army tanks. This gave him a great respect for our veterans who lay their lives on the line to protect our country and freedoms. He currently resides in Kentucky with his wife Patsy and their three tiny mop dogs, Sammy Cotton and Callie.
The third book of the series deals primarily with the dregs of society that manage to survive an apocalypse. As they say, even cockroaches will survive. Joe and his small group of survivors join with a large group of preppers and survivalists who call themselves the Mountain Men. Their goals and standards mesh, and soon Joe is off to nearby camps and towns to garner allegiance with the larger group. The city of Ashland is everyone’s main concern. It has been taken over by a warlord mentality who has recruited many men in order to control nearby communities and charge a tariff for protection. It is the encounters with this force and the recruitment of men that consume Joe’s daily activities. Cobie and Chloe also keep Joe on his toes and at times present the lighter side of the struggle to survive. This is a great series and I look forward to more. Kevin Pierce and Sara Morsey do a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life.
We finally discover why there are Islamic terrorists. There are a lot of plot shifts that enhance the story quite a bit. As a geocacher, I like the treasure hunt. With the new "friends" and possible betrayals that occur and are yet to occur, it provides a lot of suspense. The women are equal partners and fighters, even if they have to remind the guys of that on occasion. Earl has become one of my favorite characters at this point. There are a few errors in writing and the style, especially with the dialogue, is somewhat stiff almost to the point of soap opera speech. Still, this kept me interested and wow, Grandma, quite a note at the end!
Number one thing about this series as I said in my review of audible one and that is Grandma you can never get enough of her letters of spit. fire and wisdom. The author never wavers in telling the perfect story with death, growing up pains as a person and community. You feel each and ever lost and in someway morn with the characters in the story. Finally the trip never stops between the books and the narrator does an above average job telling the story. So in closing I can not review this series any better than say if you are ready really ready for fun, a laugh, a cry and a very wise old grandma you need to listen or read this series.
Like the previous book in this series, this book is open-ended, but not a cliffhanger. The story follows on from books 1 and 2. It's an acceptably believable story with a community of great characters, especially Joe's "family." The letters from Joe's Grandma are delightful. And Sara Morsey makes a perfect Grandma. Both she and Kevin Pierce deliver outstanding performances.

Relevant material for today's world..Fast paced and an easy read
I loved the way AJ tells a story...the characters are believable and the plot twists are just enough to keep you on your toes..i recommend you read this story and am looking forward to reading another of his books...
Enjoyed this 3rd book in this series. Keeps you on edge as Joe leads his people to survive and to find and kill the bad guys. Looking forward to book four in the Spring of 2018.
Good storyline and likeable characters. The only thing I would change is often conversations seemed too proper. Most people that know each other speak in a relaxed manner, often using slang.
Just finished reading all of the books written so far in this series and can't wait to get the next one. This is one of the best of this type of series that I have ever had the chance to read. If you like post apocalyptic stories then you have to get this series.
Joe. Some people just learn the hard way. Just because you are a good guy doesn't mean others are.....but it seems to be working for him. Has a woman, a daughter, a place to live, a job to do and words of wisdom from him Grandmother. What more could he ask for?
A little bit of editing and a good proofreader would make what is now a good story into a great book Typos, missing words, and an incredible number of randomly placed commas really takes away from what is essentially a good read.
I don’t know how he does it. AJ makes the characters come to life and you get all caught up in what’s going on and find out that you are learning at the same time. Oh how I love Joe’s grandma Agnes. I would love to meet someone like her.
I have just been binging the entire series, yes it has its moments of thinking what is going on, but it is good and grandma is just brilliant. The narration just works
