James K. Polk was one of our nation’s most effective one term presidents. He set five challenging goals for himself before taking the oath of office and was able to achieve those goals; not an easy task for sure. All his hard work left little time for hobbies, interests or really anything personal for a writer to note. As a result most everything written about Polk in this book, and others, are about his political accomplishments. While reading more humanizing facts is always more entertaining, this book was well written and very informative. Any school library would benefit by having it on its shelves.
