Born in 1916, Paolo Enrico Coletta graduated from the University of Missouri in 1938 with a B.S. in Education, and undertook graduate studies at the same institution. He completed his Masters degree in 1939, and his Ph.D. in 1942. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he taught at the United States Naval Academy as a Professor in the Department of English, History, and Government.
An adequate but dry rendering of the story of one of the United States Navy's most important admirals. Bradley was not only an admiral and reformer, but an engineer and busy inventor. The author does cover the many patents and changes he brought to the U.S. Navy during the chaotic period of transformation from a sailing navy to a steam driven navy. Some of his greatest inventions are explained in detail, making the book an excellent reference. As a biography though, the book runs slow sometimes, and can be a little hard to read.
