This explicitly Christian approach to the study of history looks at the role of historians and their part in recording history. The author points to the fact that it is important to discern the assumptions, values and personal judgements that colour these historical records. He briefly examines traditional ways of looking at the past, asking such questions as: is history merely an endless series of cycles or does it suggest direction?; what is the role of great men and women?; is it the story of human progress or class conflict, or the propaganda of victors?
