Carol Price is back to pick up where she left off with “Collie Psychology” in which explained the nature of Border Collies to people. “Secrets of the working mind” is the First Book in the three distinct book series. Book One covers the evolution of the Border Collie from predator to the more autistic mental traits that have evolved as a direct result in their selection and ability to work livestock. Key founding dogs that have shaped today’s Border Collie are studied to provide understanding of psychological traits and sensory issues that the breed will inherit. The autistic mind of the Border Collie and sixth senses are discussed along with working personalities and behavior. Understanding ‘Mental overheating’ and how it affects their behavior will help you keep your dog in mental balance.
Interesting book for anyone interested in border collies, with great pictures. I learned some useful things. One star off for being pretty short overall — this is less a book than an extended magazine article. And a second star off for essentially requiring the reader to buy a second book to learn how to address potential behavioral concerns for their BC. I lost track of the number of times the author referred me to the next book in her series.
Must have for all Border collie owners!!! This book and the other two parts (following books) dedicated to Border Collies are the most helpful books on this breed I have ever read. Helped me a lot with understanding my BC pup. With correct approach from the beginning you can help your dog and yourself to enjoy living with each other. Highly reccommend this book (and following parts) to better understand how the mind of BC works.
