La Vampirata

Deep in the dense Colombian jungle a mysterious emerald has been plundered by an odd band of backstabbing pirates. An unlikely character, Sara Gomez, is thrust into the action. With fang-like teeth and inexplicable nocturnal walks, she is no longer safe in her vampire-frenzied community. But alas, in 1741 the high seas are just as dangerous as lingering with landlubbers. An easy Spanish reader containing just 240 new vocabulary words and many English-Spanish cognates, this book belongs to the genre of Language Learner Literature.

As a student reading this book for a Spanish class, I felt that it was easy to understand while also being challenging enough to help me increase my Spanish-reading abilities. I really appreciated the use of multiple tenses in this book. The glossary in the back of the book was helpful, but there were words that I wish had been also included. There were a few plot holes, and unrealistic plot points, but all in all, this was an excellent read for a student learning Spanish!

It's a cheesy tale about a girl who is a vampire/pirate on an adventure, but it was a good way to practice my Spanish.

This book gave me wonderful practice in reading and getting more familiar with Spanish past tense verbs, however, the plot of the story wasn't all that interesting. Nevertheless, I got the practice I needed!

Seeing as this was the first book I read in Spanish by myself. I would say I got a good 70% of what happened in the book. It was quite interesting, and very friendly toward people who haven’t read a lot of Spanish books with a glossary in the book. 3/5 stars.

Suspenseful but still fairly easy to get through. My 2s should be able to handle this after we finish Sueños de la Isla.

Amusing, but it does wrap up with a message about accepting oneself.

The story was much harder to follow than the 'Poor Ana' series.
Even though the book advertises 'just 250' new vocabulary words, the book is almost 1/2 pictures so those 250 words are a large portion of the book. I also wonder how 'new' is defined
since we have no idea what words are considered 'old' vocabulary.

The plot was kinda awful. Main message is to trust all strangers. Sara was rude and I honestly don't blame the people from her home town for disliking her. She stole from her mother and back stabbed her uncle.
