I was very excited to get a copy of the 1995 edition and started reading it right away. Robert's style of writing is a bit different but good. I have enjoyed reading the first 4 chapters already. I must say though that I'm puzzled about something that the author states in Chapter 4. According to the Bible, Ananias does have a vision from the Lord bidding him to go to Saul and lay hands on him etc. and meanwhile, Saul (later the apostle Paul) also is informed by the Lord that a certain disciple Ananias would visit him and heal him. However according to Robert T Boyd, it was not Paul who had the vision, by Judas in whose house Saul was staying, while in Damascus! I couldn't figure this out and wonder if this is a 'mistake' that just slipped in, or if the author himself believed this to be the case. In any case, the book overall seems most interesting and has a lot of facts, and is well illustrated. Although not all of the illustrations might be helpful; it is what it is. The Book might be not better than Charles Ferguson Ball's book on Paul - The Life and Journeys of Paul, but is at least a well written attempt. Something is better than nothing. So yes, do go ahead and read, but do check what you with the Bible itself, as the Bible itself is the truth. Prove all things, hold on to that which is good.
This was my favorite of the three books about Paul I've recently read. However, the photos are really crummy, even for 1995. I did appreciate the maps and the timeline of Paul's life.
