Has absolutely nothing in common with Hurd's other I Can Read books. This one is a brilliant junior field guide. Great to have multiple birds shown on each spread, also eggs and nests - and calls for some, too. An excellent follow-up to Tony's Birds.

Simple text describes the habits of 14 different birds. Beautiful illustrations show the male, female, nest, eggs, and young of each species.

This is a great introduction to bird watching for preschoolers and early elementary schoolers. It introduces a variety of common birds and explains to young readers how to identify them in nature. This book, Tony's Birds, and What Makes a Bird a Bird all go together really well and have formed the basis of my almost-four-year-old's recent homeschool lessons about birds.
