Fig’s life in seventh grade is perfectly normal: his Life Science teacher hates him, his dad is forcing him to attend bar mitzvah classes because his mom would have wanted it, and he has just been passed over for the travel soccer team in favor of Gus Starks, a ball hog and a bully. As if Fig’s life needed one more complication, his grandmother, Gigi, is unexpectedly coming to stay for a while with Fig and his father. But as Gigi helps Fig navigate the obstacles of seventh grade and a tough soccer season, Fig comes to understand some important things: about his religion, about his family, and about Fig himself.
I Enjoyed everything about this book there was nothing I didn't like about the book. I like the setting, the writing style, the plot, the plot twists and the characters in the book were amazing, I would gladly reread it again.
I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed this. It's really well written and very emotional. The storyline really draws you in and keeps you reading until the end.
Short, sweet young adult novel about being a teenager with all the attendant frustrations of that age while learning about family, loss, and remembrance.
I loved this story of Fig and the changes he faces during one school year. I happen to know and love the author and recognize a couple of characters from our shared high school years. I can't wait for the next one to come out!
