Project Read-a-History-of-Every-State-in-Order-of-Statehood #7

I lived in Maryland for many years and Baltimore is one of America's great cities, plus The Wire is the greatest television show ever made, so naturally I was excited to read a history of the state.
This is one of the best state histories I've read so far, on par with the (far fatter) Pennsylvania one. 1634-2015 is the period covered, with no particular era dominating. Refreshingly, like the history of Massachusetts I recently read, this state history doesn't focus simply on its major city, here Baltimore, though there's plenty of Balmer to go around. The authors cover the whole history of the whole state. I was especially pleased to learn more about the far western mountain counties and the Eastern Shore. Given MD's nickname as "The Free State" and its wonderfully diverse population, much is given over here to the African-American experience and history as well.
Plenty of awesome maps, photos, and art, can't beat it.
