Meet Nasir, a young man who was dealt a bold hand in life. After one tragic event after another he loses his whole family, due to the rough streets of Detroit. With the help of a family friend Cash, Nasir is finally able to walk away from the street life in Detroit and start all over. Nasir is then blessed and gets a fresh start to attend college and follow his dreams. Staying to himself was easy, being that he didn’t trust anyway. That was until he meets Kennedy Hunter. She’s a beautiful young lady who shares some of the same goals as Nasir. After working together, she brings him back to life and becomes everything that he wants. Kennedy is secretly battling her own demons within her family, that she is scared to tell anyone. Once everything comes to light she questions rather Nasir deserves to live. Will the two be able to put their differences to the side and save their love or will death put an end to it all?
Not a bad story line but the errors throughout the book made me raise my eyebrows more than once. I couldn’t really get into the characters but I think this book was for me to simply read and clear my palate, not to absorb. The chemistry between Nasir and Kennedy didn’t quite jump through the page as I would have liked but I did enjoy their company. These two came from two very different backgrounds and I loved that they were there for each other but disliked the way the author sort of sprung the disloyalty of Kennedy on you. This part could have been written a little different.
This is my first read by this author... I did enjoy the storyline... I like how things moved along and didn't drag out... I will say that sometimes it may have moved a little to fast to where I was unsure of the timeline sometimes but not to bad... Also as this book starts to come to an end it feels like the author just started throwing things in here to close it out so the flow was off... It started to feel jumpy and kind of stopped making sense... Then to close it out it just came to an abrupt stop and with plenty of unanswered questions... This poor Braxton family got hit left and right... I did not see a lot of this coming... It started to bring out so many emotions... I felt so bad for Nasir and everything that he was dealing with and in such a short amount of time... Then we have Kennedy she is so smart and so sweet... She helps take care of her mother... She is in college and trying to become someone... yet there was some deep dark secrets in her household that .makes her stay to herself... Unfortunately, due to her mothers illness, she was not able to go to the College she wanted but in the end she was okay with this decision... Especially after she met the love of her life... Nasir thought that with all that he has dealt with he would never would find happiness... So he went off to college and kept to himself... All was going okay for him until he got paired up with a girl in his class that he had been checking out for a while named Kennedy... And this friendship started quickly and move into more than friend very quickly... Little did they know how entangled their lives really were already... Both had some walls up because of things that they have had to deal with... Little by little those was started coming down for both of them... But something happened the moment the last walls came down for them... It was like life instantly changed for both of them but not for the better... Now as I said before, with this ending it left a whole lot of unanswered questions on the table... I do not see a part 2 so not sure how I truly feel about this book without closure.... I will give this author another try with another book... Hopefully, it will show more of their skills that I am picking up on that they have... I definitely see the talent this author has creating a story... Unfortunately, because it feels so rushed at the end and so incomplete I had to give it a 3...
This book will have anyone a little emotional. Nasir and Kennedy was two broken people who were each suffering in their own way. Nasir family couldn't seem to catch a break. It was one tragedy after another. It seemed like a complete nightmare. I felt sorry for Nasir. I'm surprised he didn't blame Cash for what happened to his family. Kennedy was a sweetheart. I thought she was just being rebellious at first. However Kennedy was holding in a secret she was ashamed of. When Nasir and Kennedy hooked up. It didn't take him long to figure out what she was hiding. These two didn't realize that they had more in common than the both of them knew. Kennedy realized that both of their past had collided in the worst way and would affect their future. Instead of pointing her fingers at the person who was truly responsible for what she was going through. Kennedy turned her anger towards the wrong person.
Nasir had a rough few months with his youngest bro Rayshawn being raped and killed and his oldest bro Mike going to jail for killing the man, Moe, who did that to Rayshawn but later get murder..not to mention his mother committing suicide...that’s a lot for one person to handle, but Nasir was determined to finish school and be the man his brother wanted him to be...He falls in love with Kennedy only to find out she is the cousin of the man who killed and raped his younger brother...I hated what Kennedy had to go through with her dad, but through it all im glade her and Nasir was able to be together and be a family! Good read!
This was such a good read. This author was not playing with the pen, those keys or what ever she used to write this book. The twists and turns sucked me right on in. For them to be so young, Kennedy and Nasir really went through some things. But I must say that through it all, they handled it all very well.
Nasir dealt with a lot of tragedy in his young life. He lost his mom and 2 brothers within months of each other. Through it all he made it. Kennedy dealt with stuff that no one should have to deal with. Through their hurt and pain they found love in trust in each other. This is a must read book.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat pulling my heart strings. The twist and turns got me emotionally invested in the characters and it was overall a great read!
This book was alright. I was upset that everyone in Nasir family died all within a year of each other. Kennedy's daddy should have been tortured for the nasty shut he did.
Very interesting story I felt so bad for Nasir and Kennedy they we're both dealt a bad hand. This book had me in my feelings the first 3 chapters. I can't believe some of the stuff that happened I hope it's a part 2 so I can get the answers to some questions I have
This was a great read! Who would've thought two strangers who fell that deeply in love, haunted pasts would be intertwined and return to haunt them. Can't wait to find out if Nasir & Kennedy love can/will survive in part 2!
Good read first time reading from this author but the book didn’t disappoint. Nasir family went through so much pain, but he found his happiness. Why didn’t Nasir find out about Cash? That part left me wondering
It’s crazy how you try so hard to run from your past and start over to only be haunted by that same past. I’m mad at Kennedy but I understood her reasoning. Nasir was a real stand up dude and I loved him
That was so sad... but Kennedy kinda piss me off when it came to her appointment uncle, like because of what her uncle did Nasir loss his whole family she still get to talk and hold her mom I thought that was selfish.
This book had me captivated from the who the end. Tears was shedded throughout the whole story. So many losses and so much pain. But in the end, justice and love prevailed.
Nasir and Kennedy went through so much at a young age. They didn't deserve any of it. I'm glad they had each other and the strength to not let it destroy them.
Wow all the heartache in the world hit this young man and FINALLY a light at the end of the tunnel to only get hurt again glad their love conquered all
