Although published in 1978, Mr. Powell’s speeches still have an extraordinary relevance to contemporary politics. Indeed, much of the future troubles that he predicts within his speeches seem to to me to be on point (aside, of course, from his statistical predictions).
This book also provides the reader with an accurate political context relating to the following questions: inflation, immigration, Northern Ireland, and the European Economic Community (among others). All of which are explored before the 1974 general elections, as well as afterwards.
Whether one agrees with Mr. Powell or not, an examination of his speeches is, in my view, important to understanding 1970s politics as well as contemporary politics.
Note - I’m referring to British politics as Powell was a British politician; other nation’s political affairs do not apply to the context of the book.
Speeches in this book were delivered in and between 1972 - 1977
