Lydia was always a smart girl: knowing how to get her mother's attention, persuade Kitty, and gain dance partners for the entire evening. In my day, we didn't have self-esteem, we had self-respect, and no more of it than we had earned. ~ Jane Haddam

At last, Lydia Bennet has a chance to earn self-respect! But what is the potential cost?

Instead of chatting during the trip to Gretna Green, Lydia allows Wickham to sleep – gasp! snoring! She notices a road sign leading not to Scotland at all! Will her reputation be intact if she spends days in London without being married?

What does it mean when Wickham talks in his sleep? Is it possible he has lied to her?

This is a Team Lydia P&P one off that has Lydia using her head for more than a Bonnet Stand and with the help of a friendly carriage driver out smarting Wickham.

Which probably begs a billion question as to how it would impact the rest of the P&P plot? In this story the Gardiners & Lizzy hadn't left for their trip which would mean Darcy was already established at Pemberley; so would Lizzy and the Gardiners not visit since the maid at the Inn would tell them the family was at home and Lizzy might be to mortified to stop by. Then Darcy wouldn't see Lizzy, Bingley wouldn't be reminded of Jane, there would be no letter to Lady C about Lydia's marriage to Darcy's Steward's son... no Bingley heading back to Netherfield, no visit from Lady C... No HEA? or am I over thinking it?
