shallow understanding

I gave a poor rating because this is an outsider—a tourist—trying to make sense of a topic that they have only cursory knowledge of. Clumsy logic and poor reasoning in several places convinced me that this was a poorly written book. And, no, swinging is not polyamory. Polyamorous partners are not “playing around.” Some poly partners (like me) have mono partners and they do very well for reasons that this author would not understand. There is an excellent literature on polyamory these days that offers the depth that this book lacks. This is a clumsy essay with incorrect and misleading information. I recommend reading books written by polyamory scholars and by those who live the lifestyle (like me).

I picked this one up for free back in December (good thing, too). I'm absolutely fascinated by different lifestyles people have, so I was hoping there would be more content. But, for someone who has zero knowledge of the poly lifestyle, this short read is perfect for them because it does give the basics (forget specifics!). My two stars was given solely in the basis I didn't learn anything new. I have actually learned a whole lot more from chatting with friends who are in the lifestyle.
