Vaughn's "stream of consciousness" style is similar to Virginia Wolf. Although it appears a bit scattered in the beginning, I think that it ultimately succeeds. It was shocking for me to find out that this is a true story about the author herself. I've read that Elizabeth Vaughn has quite the dramatic love life today, and this novel embodies that.
