A carefully and knowledgeably compiled anthology of short stories and book excerpts dealing with various aspects of the influence that the advent of computers and robots is exerting on the human society, this collection is surprisingly relevant even today, dispite the fact it was published almost forty years ago. Each part has its own merit, yet most are completely different from each other. I especially enjoyed the insightful segment introductions by the author, which contain references to even more stories and books which didn't make it into this volume. Recommended as a somewhat archaic yet surprisingly prophetic and fun to read compendium for anyone interested in ramifications of ever increasing usage of modern technologies and mankind's growing dependence on them.
This collection of short stories feature computers as major players in the plots of each. Sometimes they are friendly, sometimes malevolent, always a consideration and having an impact on the storyline. Most of these plots take place in the future, though some were written as far back as the 1950s! It is interesting to see how much of this fiction has turned to reality. Interesting to read!
