Quiet Evening = Boring Evening. I can see why this book is meant to be read at bedtime. In fact, I'm nearly falling asleep just writing about the book.
Dull story, dull illustrations, except for the page about the SEA MONSTER. That was pretty much the only good part of the book.
My godson and I both agree that this book would have been much better if it was about THE SEA MONSTER GARRRR!!!! and not about the quiet evening.
This was one of my favorite books to read to--and later, be read by--my son. And he liked it, too. Calming illustrations, and prose that paints a poetically peaceful picture. A great end-of-the-day read. Love the ending. Let's not overanalyze it, it's simply short and sweet. I liked it a lot and think you may, too. Relax with The Quiet Evening.
