When Meg Warren loses her teaching job in London, she returns to Pendarren, the small Devonshire village where she grew up. The place still holds many memories for her. Some, like her childhood sweetheart, Adam Eden, are good. But others, such as her father's mysterious suicide, and Stormview, the sinister house just outside the village that is almost permanently shrouded in mist, have haunted her for years. When Meg takes on a job at Stormview as governess to the new owner's twin girls, she needs all her courage...
Let me say at the outset,, I was not the right reader for this book. When Meg Warren loses her teaching job in London she is provided with another ,not in but in Pendarren the Devonshire village where she grew up. The place holds many memories, good and bad. There is Adam Eden her childhood friend, but it is also where her father suicided. Plus she has memories as she went with other children including Adam, of a scary visit to Stormview, a mist shrouded house. And that is where she is given a job as governess to two girls. She accepts but is unprepared for what she encounters there. So was I. Because at some point further along in the book it deals with Satan worship and occult practice. This was not mentioned on the blurb or I would never have picked the book up. I was just after a short read to get my book challenge back on track. So once I knew the real secret of the house and its inhabitants, I did a lot of skimming. Dark and disturbing. Glad to close this book and definitely would not recommend reading it, even though some parts were well told. Time for me to move onto something lighter.
Excellent book fantastic read could not put it down it keep you interested and waiting for more I really enjoyed this book fantastic read I would recommend it to all my friends
This is an excellent book! Meg is let go from her job, but is given a job in her old hometown. Sinister things are going on at the house she is employed at. And wait until you meet the children!!! I loved the ending!!
