Doris Buchanan Smith (June 1, 1934 – August 8, 2002) was an American author of award-winning children's novels, including A Taste of Blackberries (1973).
I so loved this book as a kid. I remember checking it out multiple times from the library. While I liked it this time, I can't remember what I loved about it before. Perhaps it was because the main character discovers that it's OK to be a little different from other girls her age and that is something I probably strongly identified with.
By the end of the book, not much has really happened at all. Basically a book of a girl who is smart and mature trying to figure out if she really wants to date this guy, participate in the science fair, and talking about the people in her life. Just an okay book.
