Helga is a talented young witch of the third order and has never been one to follow orders.
Her older sisters think that she's a snarky brat that has a problem with authority especially the Order of Magic Officials. She has been known to slip a few potions into people's drinks because she thought they deserved it.
Unknowing to her that spiking peoples drinks is only the start of her troubles . . .
For Helga has a dark secret that she is hiding from her sisters.
Caught up with the wrong crowd Helga tries to wiggle out of trouble by working with a demon. Her plans start to unravel when potions get mixed up and an Order of Magic Official unexpectedly visits their shop creating more problems for Helga.
Can Helga overcome these obstacles and still keep her dark secret from being revealed?
I absolutely love this book and can hardly wait until the second book is written. The first paragraph of each and every chapter drew me into Ms. Scarborough's fantastic tale. If you love witches, spells, blunders, potions and of course broom flying you will be thoroughly immersed in this magical world. Young adults and older adults will love this story.
When they are witches who know how to use magic to create mischief, solve problems, and drive one another crazy! Great read. Fun characters. Laughter. Suspense. And action. This book has them all.
Orphaned as children, three young witches are struggling to get by running their tiny café. When sales start to drop, the youngest, Helga, naively starts selling potions to the TRUE society in a misguided attempt to save the café. All appears to be going well, until the potions get mixed up, triggering a chain of events that threatens not only the witches but their friends as well. Harry Potter fans will love Helga’s crazy antics in this fast-paced, imaginative story.
Oh my goodness! This was such a fun book to read. It left me at the seat of my chair ready to turn to the next page. The author is very talented and I cannot wait to read the next book.
It was an interesting read. I loved the plot and the action never stopped. The book is set in a world that magic is real. Witches blend with mortals and yet mortals are aware that witches and wizards live among them. I found it fascinating because in most books magic is cast in the shadows. The book follows the life of three witches who are sisters, after the loss of their parents. They have a cafe that's struggling and they try to make do with what they have. Helga, the youngest is working for a secret society that is dangerous and a threat to them all by making them potions in order to have customers. When the Order of Magic surrounds the sisters and the potions get mixed, chaos thrives. It gets even more difficult to keep this secret from her sisters as real danger catches up with her. Will the sisters survive with hounds on their heels? Will darkness reign or there is still hope? I found this book to be a crossover between "Practical Magic" and "Sabrina, the teenage witch." It was unlike any story I have read and it was quite original. I can't wait to read the second book ;) If you want a story about magic, this is the read for you.

Three sister witches - a great read for young rebellious adults!
Although it is not my genre, I read through this adventurous fantasy story with my daughter as she is really getting into witches and magical things ...not just on telly but also in books! A mixed up potion for the 'True Real Users of Enchantment society' creates quite some chaos in rebellious witch' Helga's magical world. If you want to know what secrets are revealed and how it ends you really gotta follow Helgas journey as she is the sassy main character in this epic phantasy world! The book strikes me as an easy and fabulous mystical read for the young readers, my kid loved it.
A new series for fans of Harry Potter - well written and good to recommend to kids looking for the next magical fantasy book. I flipped through to see itf it was good for my granddaughter - and kept reading to the end!!
I like to read books like this in October. This one was a joy to read. It was fast paced and very discriptive . *spoiler alert* the toad scene was genius. I wasn't sure how it was going to end but I loved the ending and there are leads that could be used in future books. Thank you Alicia.

I have read many fantasy stories set in our realm where the magical folk take great care to hide from the non-magical mortals; Harry Potter series, Heir Chronicles, Spiderwick Chronicles, just to name a few of my favorites. What sets Alicia Scarborough's Mystical Mishaps Series apart is that the magical mortals and the non-magical mortals co-exist, with no need to hide. Of course, there are certain potions, foods, etc that are exclusively available to the magical folk. There is no sneaking about hiding your true self from the world. The implications of that worldview is thought-provoking.
Helga and her two older sisters attempt to stay together as a unified family after the tragic disappearance of their parents. They decide to own and operate a cafe of their own, which was on the verge of closing when Helga was presented with an opportunity which would save her family's business. All she had to do was agree to make special potions for Lady Ava, promising as part of the deal to keep the secret from her sister. She eagerly accepted the offer, only to later regret her hasty decision.
This was a fantastic page-turning magical adventure. It is filled with humorous mishaps, an intriguing worldview, and serious repercussions for hastily made decisions. I greatly enjoyed it, and believe you will as well.
