Snake thought he'd be king of the castle in grade nine, but it didn't turn out that way. He made the basketball team, but the team captain is out to get him booted off. The prettiest girl at Degrassi thinks he's a geek, his marks are falling and his brother has just announced that he's gay. Snake wishes for a magic solution, but finally he has to sort the mess out for himself. Based on the groundbreaking Degrassi Junior High television series, this book offers a sensitive and engaging look at the challenges of teenage life.
Susin got her start feeding cast and crew on the popular television series, Degrassi Junior High. They hated her food, but they saw a spark in her writing. Nielsen went on to pen sixteen episodes of the hit TV show. Since then, Nielsen has written for over 20 Canadian TV series. Her first young adult novel, Word Nerd, was published in 2008 to critical acclaim. It won multiple Young Readers’ Choice Awards, as did her second novel, Dear George Clooney: Please Marry My Mom. Her third novel, The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen, was published in August 2012. It went on to win the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Award, the Canadian Library Association’s Children’s Book of the Year Award, and a number of Young Readers’ Choice Awards. Author Wally Lamb named it his top YA pick for 2012 in his “First Annual Wally Awards,” and recently Rolling Stone magazine put it at #27 in their list of “Top 40 Best YA Novels.” Her books have been translated into multiple languages. Susin’s new novel, We Are All Made of Molecules, will be published in Canada, the US and the UK in Spring of 2015. She lives in Vancouver with her family and two naughty cats. She is delighted to have finally figure out how to "claim" her author profile on Goodreads!
Honestly at first I was hesitant to liking this book due to the large amount of characters that arent even on the show such as Tom&Tamara but in the end Joey is an unsung hero by barely even doing anything lol like he does it in his Joey way of just lying to Snake's parents lol. Snake turns around in the end to just be himself and not care what people think. I wish this storyline wouldve been on the show at any point in Snake's life like even later in life where he maybe ends up crushing on another teacher or something wouldve been interesting for Snake's Bisexual TV storyline.

i love archie simpson! this book has such an interesting storyline that i wish was actually explored in the series. it definitely gave snake more depth as a character. there were some super interesting book-only characters too. i wish alonzo actually attended degrassi junior high now. also, if melanie brodie had one fan, i’m one of them. i loved being inside snake's mind and seeing him navigate his brother coming out, his relationship with both him and his parents, and alonzo as well. i’m reading either maya or shane's book next.

I loved this book so much! This showed a side of Snake that we didn’t get to see in the series. I was pleasantly surprised how similar this felt to the show. It truly felt like a continuation of such an important storyline. I am looking forward to reading more of the degrassi books to see what stories they tell. This book was very ahead of its time. This would have neverrrrr aired on the show so I’m happy we got to at least read about it in this book. 4/5!
You see a different side of Snake and I love it. I wish we could've seen more of this in the actual show but the book as an extension is a great choice too.
