A solid work, depending heavily on primary sources, about Hickes, who worked under both William and Robert Cecil. All the famous names show up, with plentiful quotes that shaft insight into how they worked and thought.

This is a useful source because it discusses not only the time Hickes spent as a high ranking servant of Lord Burghley, but also the servants in his own household.
