Monkey puts the dangerous allure of Herointown, his Shropshire birthplace, behind him, only to find himself working in a drugs factory in a rural squat. At the Mansion he shuns the petty politics of his housemates but is surprised by his attraction to Jenn, a troubled local girl, and by his own resourcefulness as he plots a tricky escape. In his extraordinary debut, Bennett combines the edgy atmosphere of a community in disarray with the stunning beauty of the English countryside.

Outstanding. As beautiful and bleak and British as a Paddy Considine film, and every bit as gritty. Highly recommend.
