Black Plane

Rate this book
A young scientist working at a space research facility abandons his life in the city to see the completion of a project. His quest to invent a new method of searching for extra-terrestrial life has led him to a village beyond the outskirts of the city inhabited by a small group of gypsies. The transition from life in the city to life in the village and the discoveries made by his invention, shakes at the foundation of everything he has thought to be true.

“A fast-paced and entertaining book that makes for interesting and engaging reading. It incorporates intelligent and thought-provoking world-views and tackles hurtful truths about human nature.”

Black Plane is very different from my normal kind of reads.. A sort of sci-fi if you wish to call it that..
I am by no means a science fan/geek so i was truly surprised to enjoy this read..
Pillay has done an amazing job with this first book-well written, easy to grasp and understand!
This book had me questioning humanity.. Had the ability to make you question life choices.. Good vs evil..
Being South African i would like to encourage us to support these local talents and to give them the praise and recognition they deserve!

This book is not so much your standard sci-fi novel, it is more of a philosophical tale with a slight sci-fi twist to help prove its points. It tackles everything from human nature, love, religion and the purpose of being. A difficult task which I think the author handles fairly well.

My issue with the book was that it could have been much tighter. There was a lot of repetition, tautologies and needless explanations that made the text feel clunky. There were times when shorter, punchier sentences would have really made the action better.
Although, despite this, the book kept me intrigued and always guessing how it would end. Finished it within three days. So for that 4/5 stars.
