One of the most interesting, morbid, funny and downright strange books I've ever read. Dr. St. Clair Symmers, a British pathologist, tells us odd tales of his experiences in conducting autopsies, investigating unexplained tropical illnesses, and teaching hapless students, and he writes it all out with the verve and dry wit only the British can somehow muster. No paragraph is without his perfect prose and no issue or event no matter how morbid or simply exotic lacks his dark humor. The stories he tells would interest anyone into medical history and in fact this work is a serious contribution to the historiography of mid-century pathology, however his writing style is what vectors this fine book right over the top.
