Phonizische Thymiateria: Zeugnisse Des Orientalisierungsprozesses Im Mittelmeerraum. Originale Funde, Bildliche Quellen, Originaler Kontext (Alter Orient Und Altes Testament, 354)

Rate this book
Phoenician incense burners or thymiateria, often addressed as "candelabra", are attested throughout the Mediterranean from the Levant to Spain from the twelfth until the third century BCE. They bear evidence of oriental influence on Greek and other European cultures. Morstadt has assembled all available thymiateria as well as all illustrations of them on Phoenician/Punic stamp seals, stelae and reliefs to analyse both their style and their usage. Supplemented by several hundred illustrations her study will serve as handbook of this distinctive group of Mediterranean cultic objects.
