This 2020 edition is up-to-date for WordPress 5.4 and Gutenberg!
WordPress Explained is a high-quality and fun introduction for beginning WordPress users. In WordPress Explained, readers will follow step-by-step instructions from top trainer and author Stephen Burge to build a complete WordPress site.
Steve Burge is from Portsmouth in southern England and now lives in Atlanta in the US.
Between leaving England and arriving in the US, there were a few stops in between, including Wales, Mexico, Japan and Australia. Steve paid for his travels by working as a teacher and a web designer.
Steve now combines teaching and web design by running OSTraining.com which teaches people how to build websites. OSTraining clients include Apple, Pfizer and the U.S. Departments of Energy, Education and Commerce.
Steve has published two books: Joomla Explained and Drupal 7 Explained. More are coming including Joomla 3 Explained, Drupal 8 Explained and WordPress Explained.
For those not familiar with Wordpress, it originated as a blogging platform that subsequently morphed into one of the most popular website platforms on the planet powering upwards of 20 percent of the world's websites, my own included. Mine is a poor example of Wordpress's potential because I am a prisoner, I didn't design my site, and I do not have access to a computer or the luxury of sitting before one with a copy of WordPress Explained.
Wordpress is the platform of such sites as The Library of Congress and UPS and even the President's Official Website. That said, Wordpress Explained breaks things down to the simplest terms, thus allowing someone with zero programming experience to set up and customize their own website in no time. And, for you other authors or aspiring authors out there, Wordpress is the perfect platform for you, too, because creating an E-commerce site with the WooCommerce plugin is simply clicks away. It can be customized any way you wish it to be and all for free. You can opt for paid themes and plugins (Wordpress and WooCommerce alike) should you choose. Wordpress Explained walks you through the entire process in an informative, yet easy-to-follow manner.
Whether you hire someone to design your website or want to do it yourself, I highly recommend Wordpress Explained. The Publisher, OS Training, also publishes a companion book, WooCommerce Explained, which is also quite helpful. I purchased additional copies to send to my new I-tech manager and childhood friend, Jim, who is also a character in my own Steven Paul Series novels.
WordPress Explained: Your Step-by Step Guide to WordPress by Stephen Burge is a great resource for beginners starting off with WordPress. This is a comprehensive, thorough, and useful guide that lays out in a step by step fashion how to use WordPress and how to use it to set up a website. There are plenty of illustrations and screenshots that depict exactly the steps needed to get going on WordPress. With his background in teaching and web development, Burge is certainly an expert in all things IT, and conveys that knowledge well in this simple to read book. Written in clear, concise language, this book is a must have guide for the beginner, and even for those with more knowledge. It is a book you will refer to again and again if you have any questions about WordPress. Highly recommend.
Excellent super simple explanation of WordPress for the absolute beginner. Anyone with even a basic familiarity with WordPress should pass on reading this as you are not it’s intended audience and will find it a simple explanation of basics that you already know.
