Guns of the Lost Canyon

Rate this book
The exciting second installment in the “Gunsight Justice” Western saga! Filled to the brim with action, adventure, plot twists and justice… this is the most exciting Hundley adventure yet!

In 1886 Colorado rancher, Will Garrison gets a big bill. He owes years of taxes on his 100,000 acre Ranch, but he’s dead broke. Garrison sets up to mine silver on his ranch, it’s at 10,000 feet elevation and winter is setting in. As silver ore is blasted from a stone bluff a gang of gunmen close in and set up camp just miles from the mine. The leader known only as “Barrister” is determined to steal the mine and kill all of the Garrisons.

Evil deeds and bloody trails lead the Garrison sons to ride to Barrister’s hideout in The Lost Canyon. Gun battles leave the grounds strewn with bullet ridden corpses. Barrister hatches a deadly plan to divide the Garrison brothers and steal the mine. The plan works until Gabe and Ransom find the courage to take the fight deep into the canyon where a dozen gunmen await them. They have a bigger fight, to rescue a Doctor who can save one of their men critically injured at the “Devils Throat,” a gorge near the mine.

Barrister’s gunfighter brother shows off his silver pistol with hand carved notches in the grip. He challenges the brothers to fight or die, or to find peace or die. The depths of the dark canyon protect many secrets which the brothers and a new ally discover. The end comes as enemies, old and new shoot to kill all the Garrisons in a fight to the death. The new ally has a secret plan which opposes his friend, Gabe Garrison. The last fight determines who claims revenge on a mutually hated enemy, Barrister. This is an epic story with epic surprises. No bullet is left unfired!

Guns Along the Lost Canyon (Book 2 of the Peacemaker Trail Series) picks up right where Gunsight Justice (Book 1 of the Peacemaker Trail Series) leaves. Although you can read and enjoy book 2 without having read book 1 first, to get the full enjoyment out of this continuing story of the Garrison family saga you must-read book 1 first. Mike Hundley doesn’t write a western novel filled with gratuitous sex and violence so if that’s what makes a story good for you, then these books are not for you. On the other hand, if you are turned on by a good solid western adventure, a yarn spun in the way it could have actually happened when the west was young, then you’ll love these books. There is violence and plenty of it in these books but it’s the kind of violence that one would have encountered in the real west, necessary violence, unavoidable violence.

Book 1 took me back to the days of my youth when all my heroes were cowboys. Book 2 took me back to the Colorado high country where I spent many happy years as an adult. I have experienced many of the things that Hundley writes about in this novel. In book 1 the garrisons fought Indians, outlaws and an encroaching railroad to stay alive and keep their ranch intact. In book 2 they fight nature, more outlaws time and the US Government to stay alive and to keep their 100,000 acre ranch from being taken from them for back taxes. The garrisons have plenty of cattle but little in the way of cash money. They are depending on the money earned from the silver they are mining, the silver that Gabe discovered, to provide the money they need to pay those taxes but outlaws and the weather are trying to keep them from getting the silver down the mountain in time.

As book 2 comes to a close with the Garrison’s winning the battle against all odds, the heroes and heroine riding happily off into the sunset, we somehow know that we will be hearing more from Gabe and Ramson. Hundley doesn’t promise a book three to this series, but we will see Gabe Ramson again in more stories. It has to happen. It can’t end here!

Mike Hundley has done it again! He captures the reader in the continued saga of the Garrison family. The story picks up where Gunsight Justice leaves off and carries the story to a new level. You will be pleased with the story of the west, silver mine, horses and the people who help shape the west. Mike please continue to write these stories and share your insight of the west.

After reading Gunsight Justice this is a must read. Action is good but the intrigue and suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat. New characters (especially one) adds to the enjoyment of this book. More than just a shoot em up western this book shows a family working, struggling and existing together to survive the harsh realities of the old west. Great read by an inspiring new writer

Exciting Western

I enjoyed reading this Western . It had great action scenes and development of the background. You did not have to read part one to understand this novel. Not enough character development as there was in the first novel.

Mike Hundley has done it again ~ he has given us a second, amazing look into the continuing lives and growth of the Garrison family. He's done it in the Old West tradition that appeals to so many readers of true Western-themed stories. This is the kind of book that takes us back to the days when good conquered evil with such strength and conviction. It's so interesting to me to realize how much our world today has changed from the days of the Old West.

I can't say enough about the visuals Mike projects in his writings. YOU ARE THERE as you read. You can hear the wind rustling in the trees and through the canyons......see the snow falling from the branches.......and hear the cool waters that flow through the creek beds. Truly a gift for this writer. The author's love and knowledge of these times gone by definitely shines through in his writing.

I highly recommend Guns of the Lost Canyon to all, and I also strongly encourage everyone to read his first book, Gunsight Justice, which began the story of the Garrison family. I look forward to the writer's next endeavor!
