Earthers: Chapter 1

Rate this book
There is a race of beings within the universe that would be very alien to us. They have been around for millions of years before humans existed and many of those living millions of years before us are still alive today. It is not known when they began, or how they are born, but unless something external takes their life, they never die. There is no witchcraft of magic involved here, just simple and effective biology. Unlike any of the animals we have on our planet, each and every cell in their body can repair and replace itself perfectly. By doing this they never grow old, and unless killed, they never die. Meaning they are immortal, but not invulnerable.

The planet they inhabit is many times the size of our own and further away than one can fathom. During their time they learnt as we did that in order to feed their ever growing and never dying population, they needed to establish farms for mass production of food. As a species they required amounts of plants and animals on a colossal scale to sustain their civilization. This worked on their planet for many millennia, but eventually their increasing numbers and diminishing space forced them to look elsewhere.

As you may expect from a species where knowledge never dies and experience ever expands, they had become quite advanced in their time. The solution came to them in the form of using outside planets as a way to fertilize, cultivate and harvest the plants and animals they needed for their sustenance. A form of interplanetary farming. They began the search for planets which would be conducive to life. These planets were few and far between as they would need to have the right amount of light, water and temperature. A few planets were found and on them they planted the essential elements needed for the beginning of growing life. Since that time many millions of years ago, one of the planets has flourished and created a variety of plants and animals since then. We call it Earth, they call it Farm 237.
