How to Survive Depression: Book #1 in How to Survive Series

Rate this book
How to Survive Depression is the first book in the "How to Survive Series". This short but powerful self-help book aims to inform and inspire readers by connecting with them on a deeper level. I have had educational, professional, and extensive personal experience with clinical depression, and therefore I can offer readers knowledge, compassion, and empathy.
In the pages of this book, I hope you will find what you are looking for. I begin by educating the reader on the causes, symptoms, and the illness itself.  I also provide guidelines on how to cope successfully.  Then I share my own personal journey of recovery and resilience.  I end on a positive note with inspirational quotes that I have found extremely helpful in my own struggle with this illness.
You are not alone in your battle against this horrible mental illness. I've been there. I've been through it, and I want to be a prime example of how it is possible to overcome depression.

"If you are sitting in the darkness (due to depression), turn on the light. If you cannot find the light switch, seek out the help of someone who can!"

Stephanie Anne Allen is the quickly emerging mental health author who has inspired and encouraged many people worldwide.

She has written:
My Mental Madness Memoir
How to Survive Depression
How to Survive Bipolar Disorder
How to Survive Schizophrenia
How to Survive Anxiety
How to Survive Borderline Personality Disorder
How to Survive PTSD
How to Survive Schizoaffective Disorder
How to Survive Eating Disorders
How to Survive Addiction

Stephanie Anne Allen has years of educational and professional experience with mental health. She has earned a BA in clinical psychology from Siena Heights University, after graduating first in her high school class. She continued on to get a job working with the mentally ill elderly as a case manager and social work technician.

Stephanie Anne Allen also has an extensive personal history with mental illness. She has suffered from depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, and schizoaffective disorder for well over 20 years. She also has friends and family who suffer with a variety of mental illnesses.

Ms. Allen has suffered great loss, despair, chaos, and adversity as a result of having suffered severely for so many years! But she was able to take all that pain and turn it into something great! Now she is inspiring hundreds with her books. Readers have given her much praise, including that these books are very helpful and beneficial. The vast minority of readers have been victims of mental illness themselves, but there have also been readers who are therapists, doctors, cops, etc. And a great deal choose these books to learn about what is going on with their loved ones.

Stephanie worked on creating My Mental Madness Memoir for months before self-publishing it in August 2017. But actually this book took her a lifetime of 38 years to complete. My Mental Madness Memoir is the very intimate look into all her struggles, but it focuses on mental illness, in particular. This intriguing memoir is highly emotional, and it will stir many different emotions within the reader. It is said by readers to be “very interesting” and “a page-turner”. I encourage you to read the reviews on this very amazing book about overcoming severe adversity by finding the courage, strength, faith, hope, and love to beat all the given odds.

In January 2018, Stephanie began to write the “How to Survive Series”. These short and powerful self-help books pack a punch as they aim to inform and inspire. They offer hope and tips on how to cope effectively with a variety of different issues. How to Survive Depression was published in January 2018, while How to Survive Bipolar Disorder was published in February 2018. How to Survive Schizophrenia was published in April 2018. How to Survive Anxiety was published in May 2018. How to Survive Borderline Personality Disorder was published in June 2018. How to Survive PTSD was published in August 2018. How to Survive Schizoaffective Disorder was published in January 2019. How to Survive Eating Disorders was published in May 2019. And How to Survive Addiction in September 2019.

Stephanie is currently working on yet another book. Stephanie also has high hopes of turning My Mental Madness Memoir into a screenplay to be used for a movie based on her compelling book.

Stephanie Anne Allen has come a very long way. After enduring the depths of Hell, she emerged, and now she is focusing her life on her writing, in an attempt to reach out and help others who are struggling. Stephanie offers hope and inspiration to all, and she is the perfect example of someone who can turn any horrible situation into a positive one. If you haven’t already done so, please read her books, and surely "spread the love" by recommending them to others.

I wrote this book to provide education, inspiration, hope, and tips on coping with depression effectively. I've been there myself, personally and professionally. I hope this book with touch as many lives as my first book (My Mental Madness Memoir) has already.

The personal insight of the author’s struggle with depression.
Tips on what to do on how to make your life more positive & functional.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written depression self-help book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great depression self-help depression self-help movie, a college PP presentation, or better yet mini TV series or even a documentary (Nami; PBS; Frontline). This was just OK for me so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

Thank you for the free author; paperback book

I think this book was a great idea. It has all of the basic information for what clinical depression is. The issues that I had with it is that it is very short. It hits on many great points, but it does not elaborate on any of them. I got the feeling that it’s a book that touches on what depression is like, but does not give all of the details. It goes straight to you can do it. Which is very important, because I believe people can recover. But it might feel off putting sometimes. Still going to read all of the other books in the series though.

This is my first book by this author. I picked this book up because I have depression and looking for some insite. This is an understandable book that I read in one sitting. I found it to be informative and helpful. The author seems to have great knowledge of this subject and you can feel her insite throughout the book. I highly recommend reading this book if you have depression as it will help you understand more about it.

Helpful and Short

How to Survive Depression was very simple and insightful. It's great for people with a recent diagnosis and those with limited knowledge about depression. Great, easy read.

Would definitely recommend for those struggling with depression or clinicians who work with depressed individuals.

Really, 3.5. This is very short, but a good starting point for someone who might be suffering from depression or know/suspect of someone who is.
